Open Source Science

Per chi non conoscesse il termine, un wiki è un sito web che è modificabile -attraverso riscritture, aggiunte, cancellazioni etc.- da ciascuno degli utilizzatori. Nel corso degli ultimi anni sono sorti diversi siti specificatamente dedicati ad argomenti “anomalistici” sviluppati come progetti collaborativi o enciclopedie attraverso tecnologia wiki. Quelli ancora attivi (con diverso fine, fenomeni di riferimento, qualità, approccio, grado di sviluppo) rilevabili oggi attraverso una rapida ricerca sembrano essere i seguenti:

• SkepticWiki (nato il 14 luglio 2005);
• The Black Vault Encyclopedia Project (nato nell’aprile 2006).

(Seppure ancora esistenti, South African Skeptics wiki, skeptipedia e Ufopedia, tutti nati fra l’ottobre 2006 e il marzo 2007, non sembrano più aggiornati; ovviamente segnalatemi nei commenti eventuali errori e/o omissioni).

Gli statunitensi Alex Tsakiris (Skeptiko) e Annalisa Ventola (Public Parapsychology) hanno annunciato lo scorso 16 maggio la nascita di un nuovo sito basato su tale tecnologia, Open Source Science, “a public space for managing controversial scientific experiments in a way that provides open access to of all phases of the research. We provide a centralized resource for scientific collaboration, and help underwrite scientifically rigorous experiments that may contribute to an improved understanding of human consciousness” (Open Source Science, 2007).

Annalisa Ventola ha presentato l’iniziativa come segue:

[…] OpenSourceScience officially launches its new website located at www.opensourcescience.net today. The website offers a variety of tools for managing scientific experiments and provides a place for visitors to discuss and participate in the research process. Besides promoting scientific collaboration, OpenSourceScience offers financial grants to researchers working within the areas featured on the website.

OpenSourceScience is suited for scientifically-minded skeptics as well as those interested in controversial subjects such as parapsychology and human consciousness. The site’s first experiment examines whether dogs can anticipate their owners coming home in a way that is currently unexplained by science. The first two researchers of this phenomena, Dr. Rupert Sheldrake and Dr. Richard Wiseman, have offered their support in this collaborative re-examination of their experiments, and are looking forward to the results. Please join us in our efforts to replicate these studies.
